This week, proponents of the McCain-Feingold/Shays-Meehan campaign
finance "reform" effort (S. 27 and H.R. 2356, respectively) attained the
218 signatures needed on their discharge petition, which will be used to
force the House of Representatives to once again take up this
legislation.
Although the House already considered campaign finance
"reform" last year, and rejected the proposal, backers of the
Shays-Meehan package were able to coerce 218 U.S. Representatives to
sign their petition. We will bring you more details as the outlook for
floor action becomes clear.
